honesty… and other crap

About the most originality that any writer can hope to achieve honestly is to steal with good judgment.
- Josh Billings

millville gardens web 1The good judgment part remains to be seen, but in this vein my book should be released to the public very soon. Monday I recieved the proof, and immediately found a typo on the first page.

It doesn’t matter how many times you proofread your own work, you will never do an accurate job. I opened the book and my eyes were drawn to the one error on the page.

In all I found five typos. And seeing the proof I realized that aesthetically I wanted wider margins. Tomorrow the new set of proofs should be at my doorstep. If all looks well, all I have to do is click a button and the books will be available for sale on Amazon.com at a bargain price of $12.00 (plus modest shipping).

This morning I picked Little Dottie up and we attended the ceremonies at Millville Gardens.

Once called Arden Gardens, this was a nice complex when I was a kid. But slumlords from North Jersey bought the place and allowed it to literally go to shit. The 3rd Ward Neighborhood Group lead the fight to demolish this blight. Big Don the Pirate came on board with his Tear Down Millville Gardens tee shirts and gift of a sledgehammer to the city commission to aid in their efforts. Friends of Millville consistently supported the city in any effort to clean up this travesty.

Millville First, as would be expected, fought all efforts to clean up this blight if it cost one dollar of their precious tax money. They would rather see 100 rat-infested apartments that stressed city resources to the max than admit that cooperation between private and public resources was required to make progress.

Thankfully Kim Ayres plugged away, soundly ignoring the ignorant. Today the city unveiled the plan, and demolition officially commenced. The 4 or so acres will be flat parkĀ  land by Christmas, and actual construction of owner-occupied homes can begin in the spring. Population density has been addressed, with more than 100 apartments being replaced by 35 single-family homes.

It is headlines such as this that make me proud to say I live in Millville!
