You wanted health care – here is what you got
Okay – so this is from the Wall Street Journal – so the information is certainly suspect from this unreliable source. I mean the WSJ has nothing like the integrity of the New York Times.
But the article discusses what health care reform means to you (and me).
First of all – one size fits all! Yep, that is right. You have just been denied choice.
• Sec. 202 (p. 91-92) of the bill requires you to enroll in a “qualified plan.” If you get your insurance at work, your employer will have a “grace period” to switch you to a “qualified plan,” meaning a plan designed by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. If you buy your own insurance, there’s no grace period. You’ll have to enroll in a qualified plan as soon as any term in your contract changes, such as the co-pay, deductible or benefit.
Oh, and if you have no insurance, you MUST immediately enroll – and the government will tell you in a year and a half how much you will have to pay. If you cannot afford private insurance which will by law conform to every other policy, you can enroll in the government program. Oh, did you know the government program will be mandated to be more expensive than the private programs?
If there was affordable health care for self-employed people in New Jersey, I would have it. I can’t afford health insurance, but thanks to Nancy Pelosi, I now HAVE to buy insurance whether I can afford it or not.
On Nov. 2, the Congressional Budget Office estimated what the plans will likely cost. An individual earning $44,000 before taxes who purchases his own insurance will have to pay a $5,300 premium and an estimated $2,000 in out-of-pocket expenses, for a total of $7,300 a year, which is 17% of his pre-tax income.
Oh wait, it gets better. The government is going to force you to prove that you have insurance when you file your income taxes, or else you will be fined thousands upon thousands of dollars. But if you are in this country illegally, it doesn’t apply to you!
• Sec. 59b (pp. 297-299) says that when you file your taxes, you must include proof that you are in a qualified plan. If not, you will be fined thousands of dollars. Illegal immigrants are exempt from this requirement.
There is an excellent website that gives lots of detail over the pitfalls. the website is byDr. Betsy McCaughey, patient advocate and former Lt. Governor of New York State.
I stand firm on my statements that until congress is FORCED to use the same program they are foisting upon us – and are forced to PAY for it – if it costs me 15 0 20% of my annual income, then they too should be forced to contribute 15 – 20% if their total income – we will NOT see reform.
The insurance industry and the pharmaceuticals have had way too much input into both the campaigns of our congresspersons, as well as this atrocity of a bill. Nancy Pelosi sold out, and sold us down the river.
Please do yourself a favor and research this bill, all almost 2,000 pages full of entitlements for so-called health-care providers and attacks on treatment that “costs too much”. Do you really want an accountant determining if you are eligible for treatment of terminal sickness or emergency life-saving care? Sorry, but I would rather my doctor make that decision. Pelosi thinks otherwise.
