Presentation
This weekend, Liz and I devoted all of our time to developing a proposal for a prestigious architectural installation in Philadelphia.
The proposal is for a mosaic mural installation ten feet wide and twenty feet tall. We created handouts for the selection committee with photos of our other installations, letters of recommendation, and the many newspaper articles and magazine articles.
We are going up against another local mosaic artist. Either way a mosaic will be installed on this site. We are hoping that we came in with a competitive proposal. The architectural designer representing us seemed confident when we spoke yesterday.
In addition to the handouts, we included our promotional materials, drawings on paper, and two 2′x4′ panels in mosaic as a visual representation of what the finished designs could look like.
We are proposing two concepts. One is more natural, featuring an abstract representation of trees and leaves. The other is geometric, in keeping with the architectural design of the building – a preponderance of square and rectangular shapes. In addition to the two mosaic examples, we included a smaller board with tiles cut to approximate actual size that we will use in the installation, if we are selected.
Of course, everything is open to tweaking, including design and color selection. We attempted to choose colors and designs that would compliment a very modern building. The design of this building is very European. This afternoon we meet with the committee. This is an interior project, which will enable us to work during the winter months, and I sense that they are impatient to begin. Wish us luck!
